9/11 - A commentary

Never forget - it's funny how this one event united us completely and then 9 years later we are so divided on so many levels.  We're divided on personal choices, choices that others need to make, we're fighting over money we don't have and we're worried about what other countries think of us, while we ourselves are quibbling.  I think everyone needs to take today to remember what being American is all about. 

It's about Freedom, freedom that you can't get anywhere else and yet we all continue to hold others to our own ideals. Isn't that what freedom is about in the end?  It's the right to believe what you believe and let others believe what they do, then work together to make this country great.  Hundreds of years ago, that's what we broke away from England on.  Freedom.  Choosing what we want to believe it.  Having the freedom to do so and also anyone else who wants to do the same. 

Think about it and remember those who didn't have a choice - 3rd world countries who have no idea what it's like to wake up in a warm bed protected by those that care enough for us to give their lives to defend our great nation.  It's fractured and divided right now, but it's up to us to change that.  

Think about the millions of soldiers who made the choice so we don't have to.   They take it upon themselves to sacrifice their lives, their time with family, their own "everything" for a cause they believe in.  They believe enough to enlist and risk being sent to places we never dream of going because it is so violent, and they know that going in to their enlistment.  You know, those are the people that are my heroes.  Not the president, not the congress, not the elected representatives that go to DC with greed and hunger for power in their eyes.  My heroes are those that give their lives to defend my beloved country, no matter how broken it is or will continue to get in the future, because you know what?  I am still free and I am still free to type what I believe.
